Here’s another illustration of the importance of forestry and sawmilling – not only to the nation but also to its rural areas.
This picture is taken above our sawmill in Bishop’s Castle, Shropshire. In the last few years over £25 million has been invested here to make it one of the most efficient mills of its kind in the UK. As well as the jobs created in the mill itself, countless others in forestry, transport and various services rely on the mill.
Forestry and sawmilling are truly sustainable activities: you can’t plant a lump of steel or concrete and watch it grow, but you can plant trees and harvest them when they’re ready – adding value to the countryside and rural communities in the process.
